Key Consideration for Life Sciences Patent Litigation
May 02, 2026
Patent litigation is complex and high-stakes. It requires that rare combination of exceptional advocacy and advanced command of the technical details. We built our patent litigation practice around that reality. Our lawyers bring decades of trial and appellate experience and the technical fluency that comes from backgrounds in science and engineering.
We act in disputes ranging from single-patent disputes to complex, multi-patent, international litigation. Our experience spans pharmaceutical, energy, mining, banking, software, and emerging technology. We have argued these disputes at every level, from the Federal Court through the Federal Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Our approach goes beyond advocacy skill. We bring the judgement that comes from understanding a patent the way an opponent, court, and expert would. We know where the claims are strong and where they are vulnerable. We work with clients to understand their commercial objective first, then design a litigation strategy to get them there. That perspective shapes every stage of a matter from case assessment, through discovery and expert preparations, to the arguments we make in court.
We work closely with clients and their usual counsel throughout. When we are retained as co-counsel or on a conflict referral, we bring deep subject matter expertise to the file without disrupting the client relationship our referring firm has built. When we are retained directly, we apply the same rigor, clear strategic advice from the outset, transparency on cost, and a team that remains with the file from first instruction to resolution.
